FILM INFORMATION

Synopsis Life and death come wrapped in a mutual embrace, both absurd and poignant, in this smart comedy about an unlikely friendship between a grieving cinematographer and a morbidly obsessed drifter. At work on a seriously schlocky, low-budget horror film, Gaspar is still reeling from the untimely death of his beloved older brother when he meets Alvaro at yet another premature funeral. A mildly sociopathic young man with an unyielding curiosity for the dark side, Alvaro soon coaxes Gaspar out of his shell in unexpected ways, in a debut film that pulses with a sure cinematic style as it channels a compassionate vision of frail, formidable, unforgettable lives.

REVIEWS

“La Vida Me Mata is a smart, dryly funny film whose roots in tragedy do not prevent Silva from indulging in some truly brilliant sight gags and bursts of the fantastic…Silva proves himself here to be a remarkable young talent with a strong voice, clear vision and enough raw talent to make the transition between mediums appear simple. Expect great things.” -twitchfilms

“La vida me mata is a film full of enigmatic visuals that shows us in a fun and fresh way the complexity of family relationships, friends, and life itself. Silva proves himself here to be a remarkable young talent with a strong voice and a clear vision.” -International Latino FF

“Diaz provides a fascinating central performance, maintaining a dry cool while registering as alternately on top of things or slightly dazed by forces he can't quite grasp.” -Variety
